Arab League welcomes Riyadh agreement
جهينة نيوز -The Arab League Tuesday welcomed the signing of the Riyadh agreement between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the separatist Southern Transitional Council as an important step to maintain the territorial integrity of Yemen.
Secretary-General of the pan-Arab organization, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said that the agreement keeps Yemen from sliding further into division and disintegration, praising Saudi Arabia for its role in sponsoring the agreement and bringing the Yemeni parties to the negotiating table.
A statement issued by the League, pointed out that the Riyadh agreement makes it possible to achieve consensus between the Yemeni parties in order to avoid war and division, adding that maintaining Yemen's unity, independence and territorial integrity enjoy the support of all parties.
Aboul Gheit expressed his hope that the agreement will be a step toward ending the war in Yemen, in a way that preserves the country's stability and regional security.
