Gov't Spokesperson: Digital revolution promising, challenging

جهينة -State Minister for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson, Jumana Ghanimat, underlined the importance of the digital revolution and industrial intelligence, calling the effect it has had "both promising and challenging."

The comment came as part of a statement delivered by Petra's Acting Director General, Fairouz Mubaydin, on behalf of the minister during a dialogue session on "The Government's Role in Regulating Media Outlets and Monitoring their Content" at the International Healthcare Travel Forum.

Ghanimat pointed out that the digital revolution has affected the media's traditional practices, which requires a proper understanding of such changes and an adequate response.

She said the government follows up on media institutions and their products as well as their compliance with the law, focusing mainly on regulating rather than monitoring the print, audio, and visual media.

She pointed out that Jordan is the first Arab country that guarantees journalists' right to access public data. Jordanian legislation also stipulates that journalists will not be arrested, noting that press and publications cases have a special room in Jordanian courts.

"A lot can be done to promote medical tourism in the Kingdom,'' she added, underscoring the depth of the government's partnership with the private sector in this field.

This partnership allowed Jordan to rank first in the Middle East and North Africa region as an attractive center for medical tourism, she noted.
