Jordan hands over chairmanship of IAEA Board of Governors to Sweden
جهينة -Jordan's Ambassador to the United Nations in Vienna Leena Al-Hadid on Monday handed over the chairmanship of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors to Sweden at the end of her 2018-2019 term.
Swedish ambassador Mikaela Kumlin Granit took over from Hadid as chair during a session of the Board of Governors in Vienna.
Hadid presented the United Nations in Vienna with a mosaic painting of Jordan representing the Tree of Life, which was prepared by the Ministry of Tourism.
During the session, member states praised the tremendous efforts of the Jordanian chairmanship, represented by Ambassador Hadid and the embassy staff, which were marked by neutrality, professionalism and efficiency at a time of key events and developments.
The board members noted that the Jordan, through its chairmanship, managed to maintain consensus among member states on key and sensitive issues that the board tackled, most notably procedures for appointing a new IAEA director after the death of Yukiya Amano of Japan, the passage of the agency's 2020-2021 budget and the Iran nuclear issue.
