CARE Jordan trains local community-based organizations
Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the courses are part of a project titled "Promoting Gender Equality and Awareness to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence in Jordan."
According to the organization, the training courses aim at building and enhancing the capacities of charity workers so they can identify, report and refer cases of gender-based violence.
The courses were carried out over a period of six days and included four community-based organizations in the Amman, Irbid, Mafraq and Karak governorates. The goal was to achieve the project's vision of making Jordan a safe place for everyone.
The gender equality project aims to improve the existing mechanisms used by service providers in addressing gender-based violence, and to enhance local capacity in terms of preventing and responding to violence in these governorates.
It also includes training programs that work towards boosting the capacities of the Family Protection Department, the Ministry of Social Development, and gender liaison officers in a number of government ministries and agencies.
Noteworthy, CARE International established a presence in Jordan in 1948, and was created in response to the Palestinian refugee crisis.
Over seventy years later, CARE has served the needs of the local and refugees population including the Palestinian, Iraqi, Somali, Sudanese, and now Syrian refugee communities.
