EU slams Israel's approval of 2300-unit settlement expansion

جهينة نيوز - The European Union (EU) on Wednesday condemned Israel's move to build more than 2,300 settlement units in the occupied West Bank.

In a statement, carried by Italian news agency AKI, the EU said its position on settlement policy is "clear and unchanged" that it is illegal under international law and undermines the possibility of a two-state solution and lasting peace.

The Palestinians in Area C continues to face frequent practices of property and land confiscation and demolition as well as displacement, the statement added. The EU said it "hopes" that the Israeli authorities will fully implement its obligations as an occupying power under international humanitarian law and halt settlement construction and expansion policy.
